09 Nov UA and HGU renew partnership
SOUTH KOREA – The University of the Assumption President, Fr. Joselito C. Henson, signed a Memorandum of Understanding anew with the President of the Handong Global University, Dr. Dosoung Choi, at the HGU campus in Pohang, South Korea, on November 2, 2022. The partnership will continue for another three years, expanding the cooperation with faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and educational projects.
The partnership renewal was preceded by an international conference of top educational leaders regarding the UNESCO UNITWIN programs being undertaken by universities in South Korea, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam conducted at the Jeju Bloom Hotel Conference Hall, Jeju Island, South Korea. In this conference, Fr. Henson presented the expectations of higher education at UA in the post-pandemic era and the university’s internationalization programs. Also present in these academic exercises were Fr. Oliver G. Yalung, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Dexter M. Balajadia, Director of Internationalization and External Relations, and Dr. Joey M. Suba, Dean of the College of Information Technology, Computing, and Library Science.
It is also interesting to note that UA and HGU have been actively working on a series of Social Creatinnovation Educational programs since 2020 despite the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that physical mobility is already open, more in-person engagements are expected to be pursued between the two institutions.
Earlier in October, five UA college faculty and four BSIT students participated in the Global Leadership and Management Camp hosted by HGU in Seoul and Pohang, South Korea.
With these flourishing international collaborations, UA is keen on global sustainability through global citizenship education and academic exchanges.
