UA Honors Patroness Thru Sharing and Festivities

Sharing and giving filled the air as the University of the Assumption celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, 2019.

Themed with “Maria: PiyalimbaUAnan da ring Cayanacan a Talatuki at Mituburan” the celebration was loaded with festivities participated by the UA community.

Quinario Masseswere held from August 10 to August 14. These were attended by students, employees and alumni. Other activities during the days preceeding the feast day were the Harana Kay Maria which was a prayer vigil interspersed with Marian songs by the different colleges and schools; Spoken Poetry competition and Marian Quiz Bee.

On August 15, Eucharistic celebrations were simultaneously held at the gymnasium and Chapel. Mass presiders in different venues were Father Joselito Henson, University President; Father Victor Nicdao, Vice-President for Administration; and Father Oliver Yalung, Assistant Vice-President for Academic Affairs. One of the highlights of the celebration was the annual Fiesta Salo-salo where Assumptionists – both students and school staff-gather at the St. Thomas Aquinas courtyard for a food fellowship.

Aside from the merriment, the different colleges and offices contributed in the traditional Lamac ning Birhen by sharing goods and cash donations to the University’s programs for its adopted communities and institutions.Assumptionists also shared for the Dugtong Barya Para Kay Maria where coin donations are connected in a line that extends along the hallway and façade of the University, an initiative of the Ingat ng Asuncion.

Meanwhile, two graduates of the University were awarded the UA Alumni Achievement Award in a ceremony attended by the former awardees and the academic community. (see related story here)

In a letter released by the UA Campus Ministry Office, it says that “the feast confirms us in the virtue of hope, whereby we seek holiness of life in the midst of our ordinary duties. At the same time, it exhorts us to see heaven as our final home,”

The UA Campus Ministry Office (CMO) is the overall in-charge for the celebration.
