07 Dec UA Performing Arts Promotes Kapampangan Culture Through a Concert
University of the Assumption organized a free concert at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga, November 26, 2017 featuring the UA Performing Arts.
“#mUsikApampangan: Kantahan, Tigtigan, Terakan”, was among the lined-up activities for the weeklong celebration of the 20 th year ofSinukwan Festival. Its purpose is to promote Kapampangan culture, music and identity, as well as to exhibit the talents of Kapampangan youth, particularly the students of the University of the Assumption.
The UA Chorale, UA Dance Troupe, and the UA Parade Band rendered beautiful Kapampangan songs and lively performances. Among the songs performed by the UA Chorale and the parade band were Aro!, Capampangan March, Dalagang Capampangan, Capampangan Medley, Pusu, Bunduk Alaya, Atin Ku Pung Singsing ,Chrismas songs and more, while the UA Dance Troupe danced merrily to Kapampangan music including Salakban, Padwasan, and Paskuhan.
In his message, Father Joselito C. Henson, University of the Assumption President, said that the show presented by the UA performing arts is a way to boost consciousness of the Kapampangan culture and identity. “We need to empower and give importance to our own culture because if we lose our sense of identity as Kapampangan, we can’t present ourselves to other nations,” Henson said.
Mr. Rolando Rodriguez, Chairman of the Board for Foundation for LingapKapampangan Inc., also expressed his appreciation to the University of the Assumption for putting up a show where Kapampangan culture and heritage is celebrated. “Thank you University of the Assumption for holding this event as part of the festival. This is a very good start to encourage schools, parishes and other institutions to create activities that promote our heritage.” Rodriguez said.
Sinukwan Festival is held yearly under the auspices of the Foundation for Lingap Kapampangan Inc., and Robinsons Land Corporation.
