Assumptionists Celebrate UA’s 54th Year

Euphoria filled the Bishop Emilio Cinense Gymnasium as the students and their friends stamped their feet and sang with the guest performers like one voice. It was the Students’ Night, the closing activity for the 54 th Foundation celebration of the University of the Assumption. Youthful roar filled the hall as Chocolate Factory opens the concert with their opening song and temperatures went high when Parokyani Edgar climbed the stage. One netizen called this the epic crowd. But, for us in UA, it is our way of celebrating our resurgence, the theme of the celebration.

Jayson Martinez, the President of the UA Central Student Council, explained that “Resurgence: we rise, we move forward, we excel” was “inspired by how UA had shown its capability to rise repeatedly amidst odds and difficulties”. It is a testament and a celebration of the solidity and consistency of UA in the past fifty four years and an assurance of the future despite the many challenges in the education sector.

On the first night of the celebration, the gymnasium was an epitome of elegance and smartness as nine ladies and ten gentlemen vied for the Mr. and Ms. UA Models of Excellence. Strutting their way to the crown was definitely not easy especially before a discriminating crowd and astute board of judges. In the end, the following went home with the most coveted titles and made their families and respective colleges and schools prouder:

The 54 th founding anniversary celebration, although shorter compared to previous years, was a success.Martinez noted that the activities were really supported and enjoyed by students and the parents, teachers, employees, and outsiders, as well. “Because of that, all of the sleepless nights and stressful daysspent in preparing for the celebration paid off,” he said.

The University of the Assumption Central Student Council 2016-2017 spearheaded and organized the overall celebration of the 54 th founding anniversary together with the different Recognized Student Organizations of UA. It was held on January 12-13, 2017.
